Before I give it to you, this was a fun project for my co-op and wasn't very formal lol.

Formal Lab Report
Changes in Matter
Purpose:
· To explore physical and chemical changes in matter.
Background:
· Physical changes involve changes in one or more of a substances’ physical properties with no new substances formed.
· Chemical changes are changes that produce new substances.
· Overview of the experiment plan is that both physical and chemical changes will be shown.
Hypothesis:
· It will turn brown.
Experimental Procedure:
· Materials:
o A beaker or a small, clear glass.
o Baking soda.
o Tap water.
o A 9-volt battery.
o Two pieces of insulated wire.
o Scissors.
o Some tape.
o A spoon for stirring.
o Eye protection.
· Procedure:
o Filled the beaker up 3/4th of the way.
o Attached the two wires to each terminal on the battery.
o Poured a small bit of baking soda into the beaker of water.
o Inserted the wires into the beaker. (didn’t let them touch)
o Waited for around 10 minutes.
o When I came back, the water was a sky blue, and the copper part of the wire. attached to the positive terminal on the battery was coated in a blue substance. The wire attached to the negative terminal on the battery had no change.
· Results:
o Qualitative Observations:
o There was a chemical and physical change observed as the charged electric wires sat in the water with the baking soda.
Negative NO CHANGE | Positive OUTER COATING OF BLUE |
· Discussion
o We talked about how there was bubbles forming as the copper wires connected to the battery in the baking soda water. Probably releasing carbon dioxide from the baking soda into the air. Is that what vinegar does?
· Conclusion
o I had fun doing this with my mom and the next experiment I am doing is the cookies, which should be fun to eat.
Yeah, I remember doing this experiment! It's pretty cool huh?
